Residents in the south of Chiswick have reacted with dismay to the news that the Texaco garage is being closed. Next door Fuller's brewery has bought the site for £1mn to increase the site of their plant by 11%.

Losing the service station means closing the only convenience store in the Church Street/Chiswick Mall area. The closure of the Church Street post office and the deli at Hammersmith Mall has resulted in shopping for provisions in the area becoming impossible. A local resident who wrote to the MD of Texaco UK was told that access to the site had always been a problem and that when the underground fuel tanks needed replacing they decided to sell the freehold to Fullers. The loyal and friendly Sri Lankan staff have mostly taken redundancy although a few have moved to a station in Isleworth.

One local commented, "Add in the loss of the newsagents on Devonshire Road south of Ashbourne Grove, and Ashwin's shop on the corner of Fraser Street and Dale Street, and there's a real lack of provision south of the High Road between Chiswick Lane and Sutton Court Road."
