Plans to close the historic Stag Brewery in Mortlake have been announced by its American / Belgian parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev as part of a ‘restructuring’ programme.

The Stag brewery, which has been making beer on the banks of the Thames for more than 600 years employs 182 workers.

The closure of the brewery, which produces Budweiser, Bud Ice and Michelob Ultra beers, will mean that Chiswick’s family owned Fuller’s will be the only surviving brewery in London.

The Anheuser-Busch InBev have not said what they plan to do with the site after the brewery’s closure in 2010, however, its riverside location makes it prime land for residential development.
