Gabby Logan, patron of the MicroLoan Foundation, has launched the charity’s annual 15km Grand Walk from Brentford to Limehouse Basin which will take place on Sunday 23 September 2007.

Gabby will also be starting the 15Km Walk on the day in Paddington at 12.30pm.

This 15km route along the historic Grand Union Canal will pass many familiar city landmarks including London Zoo, Camden Market and Lords Cricket Ground. For the dedicated athletes, there is also a 50km route from Brentford to Limehouse Basin.

It cost just £10 to register and the money raised will go towards the MicroLoan Foundation, which makes small loans to women in Malawi to help them set up their own businesses. The charity has made over 10,000 loans so far, supporting a total of around 50,000 individuals, many of them children orphaned by AIDS.

Last year’s Grand Walk raised £30,000 for the MicroLoan Foundation and its success was such that the charity is hoping to increase participation considerably this year, with a fundraising target of £100,000.

The MicroLoan Foundation’s Founder and Executive Chairman Peter Ryan says, “We have had such tremendous generosity from Chiswick locals and I hope they will embrace the MicroLoan Foundation and our Grand Walk again this year. An organised walk makes a marvellous day out for people, and in organising it, we hope to raise awareness and much needed funds for our work with desperately poor communities in Malawi, where walking is often the only way to get around.”
