Residents in the Sharon Road area of Chiswick were issued with what they described as “absurd” parking tickets when they obeyed Hounslow Council signs about parking in their area.

Signs had been posted along the road asking residents to deliberately park their cars away from the kerb so that the gutters could be cleared of leaves on Monday (January 23rd).

However, a council parking warden then ticketed them for parking away from the kerb!

Two residents challenged the notice, and said the steet cleaners were actually in the road at the time the parking notice was issued. One described the issuing of parking tickets as an example of “incompetence”.

After issuing the tickets, when the warden was challenged, he took a number of photographs of the sign before leaving.

After sending emails to challenge the tickets, the residents received a letter on Wednesday (January 24th) apologizing for the mistake and stating that the warden had been made informed of his error.

“It was an absurd situation but it’s ended happily. However, people need to be made aware of the situation” commented the resident.
