A report by Hounslow Council planners is recommending a revised proposal for the Old Station House pub in Grove Park be approved.

Having rejected previous planning applications, which would see more housing added to the building, the borough planning committee which meets on 5 August, is now being guided to accept the latest plan.

Unlike previous schemes, the current design leaves the whole of the ground floor area of the building as a pub space. Previously the applicants had justified a 42% reduction in the floor space of the pub on the grounds that a smaller establishment focused on food would be more viable.

The earlier application had received an number of objections including from the Grove Park Group which argued the loss of a pub would have a deleterious effect on community life.

The application is to extend the existing locally listed public house building with a basement, and first and second floor extensions to provide four flats above with communal amenity space on the lower first floor.

The planner’s report describes the proposed extensions and alterations as respectful and suited to this locally listed building and conservation area.

The existing public house would be retained with kitchen facilities to serve food and courtyard seating area.

The Old Station House is one of the original buildings in the area, established as the Grove Park Hotel in 1867, serving for visitors to the Thames via the new overground railway.

The pub has yet to reopen since the relaxation of restrictions but it is hoped that once its future has been clarified by the resolution of the planning issue then it will be back in business building works allowing.
