Kings House Sports Ground the 35 acre playing fields associated with a Richmond based private school has submitted a planning application for two new artificial grass pitches.

They are proposing that the new pitches will be illuminated by sixteen 15 metre high floodlights which will allow the facility to remain open until 10pm during the week.

The first pitch is a sand dressed ‘Gen 2’ pitch which will be used for hockey. The other is proposed to be a 3G artificial turf. The application states that this surface type is recognised as the most suitable artificial playing surface for community football and youth football development. They will be built over existing grass football pitches.

The site is located on Riverside Drive Chiswick, a short walk from Barnes Bridge Station. The grounds are a dedicated sports grounds used by the school but also hired out for external users and is often used for sports days. The applicant states that the pitches would enable greater levels of sports activity at the site throughout the year particularly in the winter months.

Currently there are 6 full sized football pitches (one with a spectator stand) and 3 full sized rugby pitches at the site as well as 2 pitches each for youth rugby and football. There is already one 3G pitch at the site. The grounds also accommodate mini rugby and football and are converted into 4 full size cricket pitches during the summer months.

The former Bowls pavilion on the site is also to be demolished as part of this application.

The proposed hours of use are 8am – 10.00pm Monday to Saturday and 9.00am – 6pm Sunday and Bank Holidays.

The planning reference for the application is P/2020/1063.

We have asked Hounslow Council how they intend to fulfil their statutory obligation to advertise planning applications during the coronavirus lockdown and await a reply.
