Refugees Welcome Hounslow (RFW), a group set up by two women from Chiswick in 2017, has been given the overall winner award at the One Hounslow Community Awards 2021.

One nominator said, “I can't describe the support they gave us since we got to Britain. They were our brothers, our friends and family in our new country. They stood with us in all the hard situations and were the support for us in everything. My tongue cannot describe their dedication to us.”

The ceremony was held at Hounslow House on Wednesday 6 October and was compered with England and British & Irish Lions rugby legend Matt Dawson who is also a Chiswick resident.

Nine winners were selected narrowed down into shortlists from over 220 nominations and earlier in the evening RFW took the Community Heart Award.

The evening culminated with the announcement of the winner of the One Hounslow Spirit award which was contested between the winners in the nine categories and, after a drumroll, RFW was called to return to the podium.

The winners in the other categories were:

Reaching Potential 2021: ILAYS
Building Trust 2021: Hounslow Young Facilitators
Community Together 2021: Vijay Rai - Different Strokes Hounslow

Green Innovation 2021 - Heston Action Group
