Local residents are being warned to expect road closures and late night construction noise as a result of resurfacing work by Transport for London (TfL) on the A316 Great Chertsey Road and Burlington Lane from 20 June.

These essential works will renew the existing road surface to eliminate cracks and pot holes. In addition they will reduce the need for future large scale maintenance of this carriageway.

The works are scheduled to start on 20 June 2011 and are expected to last approximately three weeks. They will be carried out at night from 21:30hrs to 06:00hrs, Monday to Friday.

It is planned that these night-time resurfacing works will be carried out in three phases:

Phase 1, 20 – 24 June 2011: Lane restrictions/temporary traffic lights

Resurfacing works along the A316 Great Chertsey Road, with closure of Staveley Road and diversion of local traffic. Access to Riverside Drive will be maintained for residents using gatemen.

Phase 2, 27 June – 1 July 2011: Full road closure/diversion of traffic

Resurfacing works along the A316 Burlington Lane with closure of the A316 (Clifford Avenue, Chiswick Bridge, Great Chertsey Road, Alexandra Avenue, Burlington Lane) and diversion of A316 traffic via the A205 South Circular Road and A307 Kew Road. A diversion for Heavy Goods Vehicles will also be in place via Richmond Circus and A307 Kew Road.

All residential parking bays along the A316 Burlington Lane between Edensor Road and Corney Road will be temporarily suspended during the works.

Phase 3: 4 – 6 July 2011: Lane restrictions/temporary traffic lights

Gully cleaning and repairs to ironworks will be carried out along the A316 Great Chertsey Road/Burlington Lane, with temporary traffic lights in place where required.

In addition to the restrictions in place along the A316 for the above work phases, please note:

· Local access to residential premises within the works area will be maintained whenever it will be practical to do so and controlled by gatemen at all times during the works

· The noisiest operations will be carried out before midnight to minimise inconvenience to local residents.

These works will affect night-time bus services. Changes in bus routes and service times will be posted at the local bus stops for the affected area.

A spokesperson for TfL said, "we must balance possible disruption to residents with disruption to traffic. However, as this is such a busy arterial route, resurfacing the road overnight provides us with the best chance to complete these works as quickly as possible with as little disruption as possible. During the works, proposed diversion routes will be indicated via traffic signs."
