Bath Road is to be closed to traffic on two consecutive Sundays starting on 28 July and then again on 4 August. This is to enable a large crane to be used by the ArtsEd as part of their redevelopment project.

Road closures and parking restrictions will be in place between Priory Gardens and Roman Road from 8am till 6pm on both days although earlier reopenings are hoped for.

It is not clear if the scheduled closure on 4 August is a backup date. A number of cycling events taking place as part of Prudential RideLondon on that day have required other road closures in the area including of the westbound A4 to Hogarth Roundabout and Chiswick Bridge and Burlington Lane (A316).

A spokesperson for the ArtsEd told us, “The planned road closures for the next two Sundays are to enable portacabins to install 4 temporary classrooms. It is a more complicated task than was first envisaged as the units have to be lifted over the roadside trees so requiring a more substantial crane than would normally be needed. Each classroom comes in two sections. Obviously we all hope the time taken to set up the crane and make the lifts will be less than the planned closure, in which case the road will be opened earlier.”

No notification was given to the media of the closures by Hounslow Council. We asked them why the closure on Sunday 4 August was permitted given the likely problems in the area due to Prudential RideLondon and did not receive a response.

We asked TfL for details of diversions to buses that normally use the road and await a reply.
