Weekend Closure of the A4 Suspended Due to Cold Weather

Roadworks on the A4 and M4 scheduled for this weekend (9-12 December) have been postponed due to the cold weather.
Originally, the roads were due to be closed eastbound between junction 2 of the M4 to Hogarth Roundabout to allow work to proceed on the repair of the Cromwell Road Rail Bridge in Chiswick. A spokesperson for Transport for London (TfL) said the decision was taken after it was advised not to carry out the work due to waterproofing issues.
The closure was due to run from 23:30pm on Friday to 5:00am on the Monday. A similar closure was planned for the following weekend (Friday 16 December and Monday 19 December) but there is no word at this stage as to whether or not this will take place.
The cancellation of the work is likely to mean that more closures will need to occur in January of next year.
In addition, overnight resurfacing work was due to be carried out by TfL to resurface the A4 (Cedars Road) at the junction with Sutton Court Road - between 5 Cedars Road and Eastbourne Road in Chiswick.
This would have required Sutton Court Road to be closed from 10pm to 5am each night while the work took place and was scheduled to begin on Monday 5 December and end on Tuesday 13 December. It is believed that this work has now been postponed until next year.
Hounslow Council has confirmed that it is suspending enforcement of the access restrictions on Hartington Road and Staveley Road (between its junctions with Great Chertsey Road and Burlington Lane) on Saturday 10 December and Saturday 17 December to minimise disruption in the local area.
Councillor Peter Thompson, who represents the Chiswick Riverside ward said, "Over the last few days, many residents have approached us asking if these closures mean that people who don't live in Grove Park will not be able to access the area over this and next weekend as the only way into Grove Park without getting fined is via Sutton Court Lane which will be closed. I have heard of family events which are now up in the air because people are confused as to what is happening.
"We approached the Council to be told that they are suspending enforcement of the access restrictions on Hartington Road and Staveley Road whilst these works are going on. This is a sensible thing to do but this decision was news to local councillors. No local residents I have spoken to seem to be aware of this decision. It is not good enough to hide news about this away on the Council website and not notify local councillors so that we can let people know what is going on!”
