Mariska Hargitay has sent her apologies citing work commitments keeping her from following in her mother’s footsteps.

The Law and Order actress and daughter of screen siren Jayne Mansfield had been asked to join in the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Chiswick Flyover for which her mother cut the ribbon at its opening.

According to reports, Miss Hargitay was not averse to the idea of attending the event in principle however; local Councilors have been held responsible for not realizing that the busy actress's schedule unfortunately allows for few late last minute additions.

The old black and white pictures of her mother opening the bypass are said to have moved the actress who told The Telegraph, "Upon hearing about the 50 year anniversary of the dedication of Chiswick flyover and seeing the photograph of my mother at the original dedication, I was moved by the romance of the era, a simpler time.

"As much as I would love to be there and carry on the tradition, I am bound to production of Law and Order: SVU so it is impossible to attend, but wish all involved a great celebration at this fifty year mark."

The actress is the youngest daughter of Jayne Mansfield and Hungarian-born former Mr. Universe Mickey Hargitay
