Including key issues of class sizes and faith and single-sex schools

Hounslow Council has begun consulting residents, schools and other stakeholders on school place planning for pupils of all ages across the borough.

The public consultation aims to assist the Council’s decision making over the next ten years for all pupils aged 3-19. The findings will be taken into account in the creation of Hounslow’s School Place Planning Strategy 2010-20.

The consultation provides the opportunity for detailed feedback about wide ranging issues such as the maximum size for a primary school or a secondary school, the key issues of faith schools and single-sex schools, and providing provisions for those students who have additional needs.

All responses will feed into the planning strategy which will be considered by the Council’s Executive in the New Year. This will then form the basis of the borough’s future school placement scheme.

Cllr Ruth Cadbury, Hounslow Council’s Deputy Leader said: “The views of parents and other residents in Hounslow, our schools and other stakeholders are central to the formation of an effective school place planning strategy.

“In gauging as many people’s thoughts as possible on a number of key issues surrounding our education policy, we hope to find a consensus and get new ideas about how best to address the pressures facing the Borough and use the education resources we have currently as effectively as possible.”
