Patrick Barr given prize for dedication at Charing Cross Hospital

A university nursing graduate from Chiswick has won a prize for dedication to his work at Charing Cross Hospital.

Patrick Barr, 28, of Esmond Road, Chiswick, has graduated with a diploma in nursing from Buckinghamshire New University, in Uxbridge, West London.

The successful graduate, who now works as an emergency staff nurse at the hospital, was also presented with the Hannah Evans Award for Excellence by the League of Charing Cross Hospital Nurses.

The award was for achieving a high standard in clinical knowledge and practice during work placements in the hospital’s renal, elderly and acute medicine wards, while he was studying at Bucks New University.

Patrick said: “I was surprised to win the award and I know it’s a cliché, but I was just doing my job and didn’t think anybody really noticed. It’s a fantastic honour.

“I particularly enjoyed working in Accident and Emergency, and on the acute medicine ward at Charing Cross, both were fantastic."

“The main thing for me has been working with people, and the great sense of achievement I have gained so far from helping people from all walks of life. Nursing really is an amazing profession. Now I’m really looking forward to pushing on with my career.”

Patrick received his diploma in the presence of family and friends alongside 1,550 Bucks New University students and honorary graduates at the University's graduation ceremonies being held at the Wycombe Swan Theatre from earlier this month.
