Allegra Stratton to lead White House style briefings on policy

A former pupil at Chiswick School has been appointed to lead Downing Street’s daily press briefings.
Allegra Stratton, who grew up in the area with her four siblings and later attended Latymer Upper School, is reportedly going to host a new daily televised briefing modelled on those held by the White House. One media commentator said, “Think of her as our version of C.J. from the West Wing”.
She worked BBC’s Newsnight until 2015 and then became te national editor at ITV News. She is perhaps best known as being the self-described sidekick of Robert Peston on his ITV show. She left the channel earlier this year to become Chancellor Rishi Sunak's director of strategic communications at the Treasury. Mr Sunak was the best man at her wedding in 2011.
It is a political appointment on a salary believed to be in the range of £100,000 and she will be subject to the impartiality rules that bind civil servants.
Downing Street said ministers would make regular appearances at the briefings which will be led by Ms Stratton .
She currently likes in north London with her husband, the political editor of The Spectator magazine, and their two young children.
Laura Ellener, headteacher at Chiswick School said, “she is remembered by teachers as being a great student and a keen hockey player. We wish her well in what we are sure will be an interesting role. "
