Former player tells pupils how racism is being given the red card

This week, a team of budding journalists at The William Hogarth School launched their pupil-published school newspaper: The Hogarth Telegraph.
Their first reporting assignment focused on the issue of racism in football and the way that the ‘Taking The Knee’ initiative is helping to raise awareness about what everyone can do to promote diversity and inclusion in all walks of life.
The report followed a visit to the school by two Brentford FC players Marcus Gayle, who formerly played up front for the club and Salma Mahamud who plays in defence.
Marcus Gayle described the ways people have been racists at football matches including throwing bananas and black players and booing. He also pointed out that children too have been involved in racist behaviour.
