Children at Cavendish Primary School will start the school year with much to celebrate. Not only has their school achieved a sparkling set Key Stage 1 and 2 results , but following a transitional period in which an acting head was appointed following the retirement of their long standing head, they will be welcoming new head teacher , Anne - Marie Inwood on 8 September .

Ms Inwood, who was previously deputy head at Chase Bridge Primary School in neighbouring Richmond (Twickenham and Richmond LEA) , said, “I can honestly say that, in educational terms Cavendish must be Chiswick’s best kept secret. I’m sure that there are many Chiswick residents who are not even aware of the school’s existence , let alone its excellent facilities . What I encountered is a friendly and caring school that children and parents enjoy being part of, with small classes, a highly skilled and motivated staff, thriving pre and after school care facilities , and what must be the most attractive grounds and location in the borough.”

The school’s popularity is growing. It has recently enhanced its ICT provision by introducing interactive whiteboards and laptops to support teaching and learning , and has revitalised its music curriculum. It is also planning an ambitious building and renovation programme for the “Early Years”, incorporating the Riverside Children’s centre which provides full time daycare and playgroup facilities, and for the Nursery and Reception classes. A new Breakfast Club is planned for the Autumn, a further boost for working parents, and two new nursery teachers, Bev Turner and Heidi Williams, start in September.

Externally, the school’s attractive tree lined grounds have been developed to provide new sports facilities , adventure trails and wildlife study areas . The Playground Project which has been planned as a cooperative venture with children, staff , parents and the local community, has already been awarded several major environmental prizes.

Ms Inwood added, “I am delighted to be joining Cavendish at such an exciting time in the school’s development , and look forward to building on its success. But most of all I look forward to getting to know the children, helping each and every child at Cavendish to reach the highest standards , and to develop into confident and happy children ”.
