On Sunday December 19th, starting at 12 noon, in St Michael's Parish Hall, there will be a party to say farewell to Mr and Mrs Mistry (known to many as Mr and Mrs Lad) from Lad's Newsagents at Bedford Corner.

If you'd like to bring a plate of food, please do - and if you'd like to contribute to their collection, simply drop an envelope (marked Mr & Mrs Mistry/Lad) into St Michael & All Angels Parish Office, Priory Avenue, London W4 1TX. Any cheques should be made out to St Michael & All Angels.

Mr and Mrs Lad were guests of local MP Angie Bray this week and a special tea at the House of Commons.

Angie Bray said: "Mr Lad has played a very important role in my life since we moved into South Parade. He has not only kicked off my day(s) with a usually cheerful word but he is also a pretty useful weather forecaster and that has proved handy on more than one occasion!

"Also nobody knows better than Mr Lad about what is going on locally. As well as selling me my newspapers, stamps, envelopes, milk, biscuits, bread and all sorts, he and Mrs. Lad have always been kind enough to take in parcels for me when I couldn’t wait in at home for them.

"They play a major role in our local community and they are going to leave a huge hole when they leave us. I know they deserve a rest after 30 or more years of service to our neighbourhood but is there any chance, even now, that Mr. Lad might change his mind?!"
