A leading plastic surgeon with a private clinic in Chiswick has agreed to pay a six-figure sum to a patient after she suffered a stroke on his operating table.

In a settlement that was agreed without any admission of liability, Jan Stanek will pay compensation to Diane Newbould, 53, who was left in need of lifetime care after undergoing a facelift and liposculture.

Newbould sued Stanek and his anaesthetist claiming their negligence ‘wrecked her life’. Court papers noted that Ms Newbold’s "poor medical history" was not taken into consideration prior to the operation especially the fact that she was obese, a heavy smoker, had bronchitis and a history of hypertension.

A substantial settlement of the case was agreed in course and although the exact amount has not been published, Ms Newbould’s lawyers claimed it was a ‘significant six figure amount’.

Jan Stanek, who has clinics in both Wimpole Street and Chiswick, is considered to be one of the leading surgeons in his field and is frequently called upon by the media to advise and consult on cosmetic surgery. He featured in the Channel 5 series 'Plastic Fantastic' and most recently as the consultant surgeon in all three of the Channel 4 series '10 years Younger'.
