ST. MARY'S RC SCHOOL RECEIVES BEACON STATUS

School becomes first in Chiswick to receive this award and will gain £36,000 extra funding

“This is the result of the hard work and dedication of the staff, governors, children and their families."

St Mary's Roman Catholic Primary School on Duke Road has been awarded Beacon Status by the Department for Education and Skills. It becomes the first school in Chiswick to achieve this award.

St. Mary's has been the top performing Primary School in the Borough for the last few years for exam results.

A spokesperson for the school said, "This is the result of the hard work and dedication of the staff, governors, children and their families."

Beacon Schools play a vital role raising standards by sharing good ideas and best practice with other schools in their area. This helps raise achievement in exams and raise standards in school management and discipline

Each Beacon School is awarded, on average, £36,000 to fund work with other schools. The Government is investing £47 million in total this year.

Ivan Lewis, Minister for young people and learning said: ‘Beacon Schools help raise standards in other schools by sharing knowledge and talent. The programme has already helped many schools to benefit from advice and experience shared by the some of the best schools in the country. We know from previous experience that Beacon schools and the schools they work with get a great deal out of these partnerships.”

John Betts Primary in Shepherds Bush was also awarded Beacon Status.
