Turnham Green tube station was closed this Saturday morning (27 February) for almost an hour after an alert over a suspicious bag.

The leather laptop bag reportedly contained a document which initially gave cause for concern because it mentioned the word 'bomb', according to a local witness.

A member of staff at Wheeler's Garden Centre spotted the leather bag abandoned outside the entrance to the station at around 7am.

The station authorities were alerted and the area was sealed off between Bath Road and along Turnham Green Terrace while Bomb Disposal experts were called to the scene.

A witness from a local business told ChiswickW4.com; "We heard afterwards that the document in the bag was a script for a play and that the laptop belonged to a student who was rehearsing for the play. However it mentioned the word 'bomb' or 'bombs' so it had to be checked out."

The witness said it appeared the owner of the bag became unwell after a night on the town and the bag was abandoned close to the entrance to the tube station.

We have been unable to verify this version of events with police.

Transport for London (TfL) said that the tube station at Turnham Green had been closed from 7.29am to 8.30am due to a suspicious package.
