Traffic was gridlocked again in Chiswick again this Thursday evening (5 May) after another lorry hit a railway bridge in the Kew area closing the South Circular. Just two days earlier a similar incident had brought the area to a standstill.

The A205 (Mortlake Road) remains closed between Kew Road and Bessant Drive but jams around Chiswick Roundabout have now eased although it remains slow southbound over Kew Bridge.

The situation in the W4 was worsened by a water main burst on Southfield Road which led to the temporary suspension of the E3 bus service. There was also a suspension of District line services between Richmond and Turnham Green whilst the bridge was checked.

On 3 May a lorry carrying prefabricated concrete walls which were too high hit the same rail bridge. One of the walls became detached from the lorry and there was some minor damage to the bridge.

Residents in the area claim that incidents of this nature are a regular occurrence at this location and have asked Richmond Council to take further action to prevent them.
