The District line was closed on Sunday morning between Turnham Green and Richmond after a tropical style thunderstorm overnight (26-27 May) led to flooding at Gunnersbury station.

Torrential rain hit London at about 11pm and over 15,000 lightning strikes were recorded in under four hours according to BBC Weather. The extended lightning gave a spectacular light show in the sky during a kind of storm rarely seen in the capital.

The station has now reopened and London Underground say there is a good service on the line.

Further thunderstorms are expected and the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for more heavy rain and flooding.

Temperatures had reached 27 degrees in London during Bank Holiday Saturday.
