A man was killed on Wednesday evening after being hit by a Piccadilly line train at Turnham Green station.

He is reported to have climbed onto the tracks at around 6pm. He was treated at the scene by emergency services and did not die until later in the evening after he had been taken to Charing Cross Hospital.

The Piccadilly Line services were severely disrupted and the station and Turnham Green Terrace were closed for a period. Early fears that there had been a security alert proved to be misplaced.

British Transport Police have said that there were no suspicious circumstances relating to the death.

The safety record of the station has been questioned by regular users. It has one of the highest fatality rates for any station on the tube network in recent years.
