Latest Phase of Cycleway 9 Came in Under Budget |

Initial overruns due to drainage issues wiped out by cost savings
February 3, 2024 A recently published Hounslow Council report has shown that the latest phase of Cycleway 9 was delivered under budget. Phase 3B which was the upgrade of the stretch between Chiswick Lane and Heathfield Terrace including improved junction treatments was completed at a cost of £704,575.71 against a budgeted cost of £775,567.58. The £70,991.87 underspend has allowed to offset a £64,993 overspend on Phase 3A which was the upgrade undertaken between British Grove and Chiswick Lane which was meant to cost £2,500,000. Extra work to ensure proper drainage had to be done and this was not in the original costings. These two Chiswick phases cost a combined £3,275,567.58 which was 0.2% less than budgeted for. Overall, along with the remaining two phases of the cycleway in Brentford, the segregated route is expected to cost around £9,000,000 with all of the expenditure being covered by Transport for London (TfL). Phase 3C which is the section between Kew Bridge and Watermans Park has already been completed and Phase 3D, which takes the segregate route from Watermans Park to Alexandra Road, was begun in October 2023 and is expected to be completed in the spring.
