Deayton fails to score in Chiswick

Star's rehabilitation begins in preparation for his come-back on Red Nose Night

Angus Deayton is back in the limelight, thankfully this time it’s in aid of Comic Relief. In a charity football tournament held in Chiswick this week, Deayton’s team were thrashed 5-0 by a team from BBC1’s Football Focus in a match played at the University of Westminster Sports Ground on Cavendish Road.

Amongst Deayton’s team were Teachers star Andrew Lincoln and former Casualty actor Patrick Robinson, whilst the Football Focus team boasted presenter Ray Stubbs and former Crystal Palace player Mark Bright.

Deayton’s association with Comic Relief is step towards rebuilding his reputation after his very public sacking as host of Have I Got News for You after tabloid revelations of sex and drugs last October. His participation in Red Nose Night on March 14th will be his first major TV appearance for the BBC since the incident. His performance on the football field will be shown the following day on Football Focus.

Also taking part at the event were a team of Manchester United look-a-likes who had ManU’s looks but unfortunately not their talent!
