Six local residents have been included in the 2011 New Year Honours list recognising their outstanding achievement and service within their fields.

Mezzo Soprano Felicity Palmer CBE became a Dame for her services to Music. Miss Palmer, a professor at the Royal College of Music, was awarded her CBE in 1993.

Historian and author Lady Antonia Fraser CBE was also awarded Dames Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

Yasmin Diamond, who divides her time between being a mother of two and Director of Communications at the Home Office, was awarded Order of the Bath.

Chief Executive Officer, WS Atkins plc Keith Clarke was awarded a CBE for services to Engineering and to the Construction Industry as was Sheila Hancock for her services to Drama.

Gavin Booth was awarded an MBE for his services the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust.

A little further a field but warrants a mention is the DBE for Susan John, Headteacher of Lampton School Hounslow, a national leader of education, her school featured in Ofsted’s 2009 publication ‘Twelve Outstanding Secondary Schools – Excelling against the Odds’.
