Chiswick children can get in the mood for Green Days weekend on June 8th and 9th by joining in the Treasure Hunt in Turnham Green Terrace this week. In the shop windows, they can seek out book characters created by Axel Scheffler - illustrator of The Gruffalo and Pip & Posy. If they find them all and say which is their favourite and why, they could win a prize from Disney or Trotters, where they can pick up an entry form.

It's just one of many events for young people at this year's Bedford Park Festival, starting at the Green Days Fete on Saturday June 8th, opposite Turnham Green tube station.

The book characters theme will continue in the Fancy Dress Parade on the Saturday morning. Children simply have to come dressed in their best costume to St Michael and All Angels Parish Hall at 10.30am, and then parade onto the Green to the applause of the crowd! The costumes will be judged by Phyllis Logan, well-known as Mrs Hughes, the housekeeper in Downton Abbey, and Fr Kevin Morris, vicar of St Michael & All Angels, which organises the Festival.

Elsewhere on the Green, no fewer than 32 five-a-side under-13 football teams will compete for four trophies across the weekend. At the children's corner, there will be games and competitions, and on the Sunday afternoon the annual Bedford Park's Got Talent contest will see youngsters up to the age of 16 performing on the Bandstand in front of hundreds of people.

Events for children continue throughout the Festival fortnight. On Saturday June 15th, Axel Scheffler heads the line-up for the Children's Book Morning in St Michael's Parish Hall. Singer-songwriter Nick Cope will perform family songs and music for little ones and Alice Grattan and Kat Perdikomati will sing Mussorgsky's songs for children in The Nursery: a journey of imagination in song.

On Saturday morning, June 22nd, Sarah Lenton will perform The Bible: A to Z in one hour, with three actors and 24 cardboard boxes! That evening, it's the awards for the third annual BPF Shorts film competition for 11-to-18-year olds. The winner will receive a Canon 650D camera, donated by Phil Brown of Film Post Production. He'll be one of the judges, with Hollyoaks director Eddy Marshall and vloggers Jack and Finn Harries (JacksGap). And there is a photo competition for children as well. Savills Chiswick office is the major sponsor for The Bedford Park Festival for the fifth year in a row. Savills sponsor the opening event, The Bedford Park Summer Exhibition, which is in place the entirety of the festival, and they will be hosting a hospitality tent, as well as sponsoring the sing-a-long-a-Grease with Summer Nights BBQ  and the Craft Fair on Green Days.
