Chiswick Pier Trust (CPT) is hosting a free, live and online talk via zoom on the British artist Sir Stanley Spencer (1891-1959) at 7pm on Tuesday 15 February.

The talk will focus on his life and work and connections with the River Thames. The 40-minute talk will be presented by Keith Le Page from Stanley Spencer Gallery.

All are welcome to join the talk and you can book your free tickets online or visit the Trust's web site to see the future programme of free ‘Talks by the Thames’. Donations to the trust are welcomed.

This is the first in the series of talks The Trust is in the process of putting together for 2022, which will continue to be delivered as webinars. The annual season of 'Talks by the Thames' aim to highlight the history, wildlife and ecology of the Thames. Although pre-covid its talks have been held in person in the Pier House it was found that webinars had a number of advantages including reaching a larger and wider audience than possible in the hall, and being able to record them so that they can be made available for the first time on the website.

Looking further ahead, there will be a watercolour workshop at Chiswick Pier House with Julia Cassels on Wednesday 2 March, an afternoon tea cruise for Mothering Sunday on 27 March and the Boat Race is due to be held on Sunday 3 April.

Chiswick Pier Trust is a charity which is looking at ways to expand its charitable remit by reaching more residents in the borough and surrounding areas and is currently looking for more trustees. If you would like to join the team as a trustee, email trust@chiswickpier.org.uk for further information.

The Chiswick Pier Trust runs the Chiswick Pier and Pier House. In this role it manages the commercial and residential moorings at the Pier, as well as venue and conference hire at Pier House.

The trust works to engage people with the River Thames. It provides access to the Thames and support major river events, as well as organising events of its own.

For further information on the Pier check the Chiswick Pier Trust's web site.

Like Reading Articles Like This? Help Us Produce More

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

A suggested monthly payment is £8 but we would be grateful for any amount for instance if you think this site offers the equivalent value of a subscription to a daily printed newspaper you may wish to consider £20 per month. If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we'd be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you'd like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT. All payments are made through a secure web site.
