Despite the varied weather conditions “enjoyed” by gardeners over the alleged “barbecue summer” there was a very strong entry from CHS Members - particularly in the fruit and vegetable classes in their Autumn Show held on Sunday 6th September.

Long-standing member Kurt Berger won seven awards - including an impressive amount of silverware.

Newcomers Margaret Miles and Cathy Meisels were thrilled to be awarded the Novice Dahlia Cup at their first attempt after only deciding to enter this class at the last minute. Good for them that they did.

Koula Louki enjoyed success in the domestic classes - winning first prizes with her fruit jelly, wholemeal bread and cherry cake. She also won the Mrs Johnson Bowl and Carol Weale Memorial Cup for her efforts - clearly earning her the title of Queen of Puddings!

Daisy Ireland won first prize in the Children’s “Freak Vegetable” class while her sister Molly Ireland won “Longest Runner Bean” and “Tallest Sunflower” classes which gave her the Rose Fuller Cup (Highest total points in the Children’s Classes).

The CHS were delighted that Fiona Crumley, Head Gardener at Chiswick House was able to take time out of her busy schedule to come and present the prizes.
