Chiswick resident Judy Packard responded to the Chiswick Recycling Action Group’s appeal to enter a competition for new ideas for re-using unwanted items.

Her idea of using the inner bags from cereal packets for sandwich bags was rewarded with prizes at the recent CRAG meeting at Chiswick Town Hall.

“We really liked Judy’s idea. It was simple but so practical. Not only does it re-use the bags from cereal packets, but it avoids the need for buying alternative plastic packaging for wrapping up packed lunches”, said one CRAG member.

“Additionally, the bags are really robust and last quite a while, so can be re-used many times. Finally, when they come to the end of their life, instead of being thrown away, they can then be taken for recycling to the Recycling Centre at Sainsbury’s.”

Judy was presented with a £50 cheque and a stylish re-usable shopping bag which was made of recycled juice packs and contained a collection of other prizes all made from recycled materials and supplied by local eco-retailer ‘the green trading company’.

This new idea will be added to the A-Z of useful recycling information which is available at www.crag-online.org.uk and in ‘The Chiswick Recycling Directory’ which can be picked up at Chiswick Library, As Nature Intended, W4 Printers, The Natural Food Store, The Natural Café, the green trading company and the CRAG stall at local events.
