On Monday 11th February, eight talented young golfers aged 5 – 12 years played in the launch of the HSBC Wee Wonders Open Golf Championships, the UK’s leading golf competition for grassroots talent. The children took part in a coaching clinic with Colin Montgomerie, a short skills competition and a round of golf on the par 3 nine hole golf course.

Held at Dukes Meadows Golf Club, each competitor was chosen to represent their region with Chiswick’s eight year old Samantha Fuller (pictured below left with Colin Montgomerie) representing the entire South of England.

Dukes Meadows was chosen to host the event because of its success at helping to develop the game at grassroots. Scott Margetts, General Manager of Dukes Meadows said “HSBC Wee Wonders is a fantastic event which exemplifies exactly what we are doing here at Dukes Meadows, by supporting junior golf development in this way”

The Wee Wonders Open Golf Championships attracts over 3000 aspiring golfers each year. Played on par 3 courses throughout Great Britain and Ireland, the Championships allow competitors to play 36 shots and place their flag where the final shot finishes, with the winners being those achieving the greatest distance around the course.
