A guided walk is taking place of the sites of two battles that took place during the English Civil War.

The meeting point for the walk about the Battles of Brentford & Turnham Green is on Sunday 18 November, 10.30 am at Market Place, High St, Brentford, TW8 8FJ.

The tour leader is Howard Simmons of the Battlefield Trust and a local historian who will lead the group around the key strategic points in the area.

The Battle of Brentford took place on 12 November 1642. It was one of the very early battles of the English Civil War and a bloody affair, won by the Royalists in their attempt to recapture London. This endeavour ended the following day two miles to the West in a stand-off known as the Battle of Turnham Green.

The tour will be focussing on the Battle of Brentford with a linear walk that traces the unfolding battle from the initial Royalist cavalry attack on Richard Wynne's house via Syon House up to the assault on Brentford Bridge and the subsequent attacks on the barricades up the high street and defeat of the Parliamentarian garrison.

It will conclude the walk at Ferry Point and hear about the next day's standoff at Turnham Green with directions of how to reach the interpretive panels for those who may be interested in travelling to see these.
