Macmillan Cancer Relief’s Chiswick Committee is hosting an evening of Wine Tasting and Opera entitled Villains and Virgins.

The event takes place in Edward Latymer Theatre, Latymer Upper School, King Street, Hammersmith on Saturday, 8 October.  Master of Wine, Maggie McNie will be aided by opera buff Colin Deane who will link the wines chosen with major operatic arias.

The evening begins promptly at 7.30 – 10.30 pm and tickets are £40 each or £70 for two, to include ten tasting wines and supper.

Colin Deane, MA, a pianist, worked for the ENO and Victor Hochhauser before moving into the wine trade. He is particularly interested in the human voice, and is knowledgeable on opera singers. He is working on a biography of the German soprano, Frida Lieder and, when it comes to a history of ghastly (or near ghastly) events in live performances, he is a real specialist. So the evening promises to be very amusing.

Maggie McNie, MW, an actor and singer, entered the wine trade by accident in 1974 becoming a Master of Wine in 1986. Maggie is one of the finest teachers of wine tasting in the UK and has recently been hailed as “Madame Champagne” by Harpers Wine & Spirit!
