Keen amateur photographers, snap-happy parents and enthusiastic youngsters are all invited to enter this summer's photography competition with a “My Chiswick” theme.

The competition is being held by Our Lady of Grace and St Edward in the lead up to their parish fair on Saturday July 8th 2006.

Entries should capture the enjoyment of spending time in Chiswick – whether it’s out and about enjoying open-air activities, spending time at home or in the garden, or simply enjoying a community event, sipping cappuccino or climbing trees.

Chiswick based professional photographer Mark Bury, who will be one of the judges, said “I would like to see images which do justice to one of the best places to live in London. Photographs that really capture the sense of the area. So let your creativity run wild and get snapping!”

To fire the imagination and get the ball rolling, here are Mark’s top tips:

  • Focus on your subject.
  • Maximise the light and avoid too many shadows.
  • Try different angles. Don’t just frame the subject straight on. Use different angles to compose your picture.
  • Try something new. Be bold and experimental but most of all – enjoy it!

The deadline for entries is Friday 23rd June 2006.

Prizes, including a training session from an award-winning photographer and a Fuji finepix A400 Digital Camera, will be awarded to:
• Best photographer under 18
• Best photographer 18 and over
• Six runners up (who will each receive vouchers from Snappy Snaps)
• An overall winner

Entries will be judged by Photograher Mark Bury, Andy Sands of Chiswick Camera Centre, John Fitzgerland of Snappy Snaps and Emma Brophy of ChiswickW4.com. Winning entries will be published on the ChiswickW4 website and on show at the summer fair on Turnham Green.  “My Chiswick” will then move to The Chiswick Moran Hotel where the winning entries will be exhibited for a period of two weeks.

An entry form can be downloaded here. Please complete in full and send with your photograph(s) and entry fee to Annie Garfoot c/o Neighbour Net Ltd, The Courtyard, 4 Evelyn Road, Chiswick W4 5JL.

The Parish is grateful for the competition's generous sponsorship from Mark Bury, Chiswick Camera Centre, Chiswickw4.com and Snappy Snaps.

Money raised from the competition and the summer fair will be distributed by the Parish of Our Lady of Grace and St Edward to local charities including React, Bag Books, Emmaus and Damien House, Bliss at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, Bridge Street Day Care Centre, KIDS Hounslow Projects.
