It started with a simple query where to take an elderly grandmother for lunch on Christmas day and ended with a ‘miracle’. Which is what Pensioners Alone At Christmas’ organiser Pauline Hart deemed it after receiving donations of over £700 towards this year’s lunch.

She told ChiswickW4.com “I want to say a very big thank you to the wonderful people of ChiswickW4. It is a miracle that Pensioners Alone at Christmas Party in Chiswick has received £700 from the wonderful people who read the forum and for Gary who wrote the first suggestion.”

She continued “Usually 60 Senior Citizens attend the party and we were supported by about 30 Volunteers, some who are on their own at Christmas; we offer everyone a Christmas dinner. The cost of the party is usually £1,000 as we also like to send our guests home with a box of biscuits, a slice of Christmas cake and mints and fruit."

“Sadly many of the people/organisations who have been supporting us over the past 22 years are no longer available and we have only £100 left in our funds for this year's party, (we also hold a summer party for many senior citizens which costs about £400) so our funds are very low."

“We will be very, very grateful for any donation we are given. Please make the cheque payable to Pensioners Alone at Christmas and send it to me at 194 Southfield Road, W4 5LD or if you want to give cash let me know and I will arrange a meeting time/place."

“I was asked how much it cost per person I calculate it is about £10 to cover transport, meal and present. Thank you so much for all your support and for caring. I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and 2008. Also if you do know of anyone who is on their own this Christmas please let me know; they will be very welcome.”
