A charity recital is being held at this Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Chiswick this Sunday (21 January)

Soprano Maria Danishvar and pianist Irina Davydova will be performing ‘Songs By Sergei Rachmaninov’ at 2pm.

The event is in aid of Christians in the Holy Land and takes place in the Parish Hall at 57 Havard Road W4 4ED.

The diocesan bishop Irenei (Steenberg) of London and Western Europe will be in attendance.

Admission is free with a retiring collection.

The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God and the Holy Royal Martyrs is the Cathedral See of the Diocese of Great Britain and Western Europe of the Orthodox Church Outside Russia and is one of the oldest Orthodox parishes in the British Isles, having been founded in 1725. It made its home in Chiswick after the completion of the church built in the Pskov style which was consecrated in 2018.

The bishop has condemned the war in Ukraine and the parish provides support for Ukrainian refugees in the UK and victims of the war in their country.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.
