Join church historian Janet Gough for her illustrated review entitled Sir Christopher Wren and the Rebuilding of London.

She will explain how Sir Christopher Wren through his rebuilding of 51 churches and the daring and modern domed St Paul’s Cathedral restored confidence in the King and government after the Plague of 1665 and the Great Fire of 1666.

The challenging circumstances of late 17th century England will be considered, and you will learn about Sir Christopher Wren and the talented group of craftsmen and artists whom he worked with.

In addition there will be a detailed look at several London churches as well of course at the landmark St Paul’s Cathedral. This year marks the tercentenary of limewood carver extraordinaire, Grinling Gibbons, and Janet’s talk is designed to raise interest in Wren’s churches as we approach the tercentenary of his death in 2023.
