A play from Maverick Theatre set in a pub and performed in a pub
April 3, 2023 A production of Jim Cartwright’s classic comedy drama Two is coming to the Tabard. The Maverick Theatre Company, which specialises in performances in pubs, is staging a play set in a pub in a pub. The Tabard will be the first venue in a nationwide tour of the play across pubs, clubs and community halls including venues in Birmingham, Dorset and Sheffield. The play features Claire Louise Amias and Greg Snowden. Claire has worked extensively on stage and screen, including the award-winning film ‘Provoked’ with Miranda Richardson, Robbie Coltrane and Aishwarya Rai and the Olivier-winning play ‘Handbagged’ written by Moira Buffini. She’s had starring roles in Number One theatre tours including ’Funny Peculiar’ – a Bill Kenwright production – and numerous roles at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and other regional theatres. Greg graduated from RADA in 2008 and has been working regularly in both theatre and film ever since. His last theatre appearance was in ‘Jerusalem’ with Mark Rylance in the West End, On TV, he’s been in ‘Coronation Street’. But being originally from Burnley, Lancashire, he’s always been a fan of Jim Cartwright. Artistic Director Nick Hennegan said, “We first produced this play 25 years ago and it’s lost none of its humour or relevance. There are two actors playing 14 different characters and it’s set over one night in your local pub. It makes audiences laugh and cry. It is real ‘event’ theatre. We have 2 brilliant actors and an emerging director, which is a hall-mark of Maverick’s work in encouraging new talent. And we’re at the brilliant Tabard Theatre again. We’re bringing students from our Creative Producers course to see it and we have a smattering of famous faces attending too. And if any other Pub, Club or community. space wants us, we’ll turn up for £150 which is cheaper than most DJ’s! We’ve a series of plays lined up in the future that will be great in a pub!” Every Tuesday there will be a free Talkback session at the Tabard with the cast and crew after the show. Two runs from 12 to 29 April and tickets cost £18 or £15 for concession. The approximate running time is 90 minutes including an interval. You can book all productions online on the Tabard Theatre web site or call the box office on 020 8995 6035 (leave a message if you can’t get through and your call will be returned). Theatre at the Tabard is at 2 Bath Road, Chiswick (W4 1LW).
