A walk across Chiswick is being held on International Women's Day (Tuesday 8 March) to highlight the issue of the personal safety of women in girls.

Female police officers will be participating in the Walk and Talk event and will be talking to local women about their experiences and concerns as well as hear their suggestions on how they can make them feel safer.

This and other walks across London are being held as we approach the anniversary of the murder of Sarah Everard, and following other appalling crimes against women. They form part of the Met's efforts to rebuild the trust of all Londoners, including women and girls, in it as an organisation dedicated to their safety.

The meeting points are as follows:

Chiswick Business Park, outside Virgin Active Gym W4 5YA – 11:00am

Turnham Green Church, W4 5LY – 11:25am

Fishers Lane, W4 1PD (Junction with Chiswick High Road) – 11:45am

Turnham Green Fountain (Opposite Hack & Veldt deli) – 12:05pm

Homefield Recreation ground, W4 2AT (Next to children’s playground) – 12:30am

The walkers will wait at each meeting point for 10 minutes before continuing the walk. You are invited to walk as much or as little as you like.

Commander Rachel Williams, said, “All women and girls have the right to feel safe, at any time, day or night, in public or at home, and we are doing everything we can to improve safety.

“We appreciate and acknowledge public concern and anger, and the desire for action to be taken which keeps women and girls safe – and we agree. The Walk and Talk initiative is just one of the many things going on across London to crack down on violence against women and girls."
