On Sunday, 19 June, from 11am to 3pm, the London Fire Brigade celebrates its 150th birthday at Chiswick fire station. The family event is a great way to spend Father’s Day with live music, food, games and the opportunity to learn vital fire safety advice.

The Mayor of Hounslow will kick off the day with an opening ceremony, expressing connection between the fire station and the community.

Playmobil are helping organise 65 special open days across London to celebrate the Brigade’s 150th anniversary. Children big and small can meet real firefighters and life-sized PLAYMOBIL ones, plus enjoy toys and activities galore. Ten per cent of proceeds will be donated to the Brigade’s charities of choice, with toys available from April to purchase at the open days and from Playmobil customer services.

A 4mx4m stage will be at the centre of the event, hosting a “fire awareness” play performed by a local acting club, and various live music acts and DJs.

There will be plenty to see thanks to a wide range of activities, showcasing the many talents and skills of firefighters. Crews will stage a road traffic rescue demonstration, and a towering inferno display performing a mock up of rescuing someone from a ‘burning’ building. Visitors will be able to see up close four different vintage fire appliances, along with vehicles from the modern fleet. Also one of the Brigade’s talented Fire Investigation dogs, trained to track down causes of fire, will make an appearance during the day.

The open day is also the opportunity to remember the strong bond with the local community. The scout company 1st Chiswick, one of the oldest in the world founded in 1908, will act as marshals for the vintage fire appliances. The local police will bring a car for display, and the St. John Ambulance will present an ambulance and a first aid demonstration with their young cadets.

The Chiswick event will feature an amazing array of activities, to provide its guests a great time throughout the day. There will be a food court with ice cream, coffee and refreshments stands, while children will be kept busy by fair ground rides and face painters. A lucky draw will also give someone the chance to win a Porsche for a weekend.
