'Green Up Gunnersbury' Spring Clean Campaign
Volunteers sought for local initiative to tidy up local area
Led by the West Chiswick and Gunnersbury Society (WCGS) and supported by all 9 Chiswick Councillors, the community is going to come together again to tidy up a stretch of the High Road near Gunnersbury Station.
The project seeks to build on the success of the clean-ups of Turnham Green and Chiswick Back Common. It is part of WCGS’s Green up Gunnersbury Campaign and has been registered as part of the Great British Spring Clean 2019 on the Keep Britain Tidy website:
The clean-up on 24 March will start at 2pm and last for an hour; those offering to volunteers to this great cause will gather outside Gunnersbury Station just before 2pm to collect green bags, pickers and safety gloves provided by Hounslow Council, before setting off westwards towards the Chiswick Roundabout. The group walk up the high Road will include Burlington Road, Oxford Road North and Cambridge Road North and end at Surrey Crescent opposite the roundabout. The team will then crossover and head eastwards towards the Chiswick Business Park covering Power Road, Thorney Hedge Road and Silver Crescent along the way. This will be followed by refreshment /children football kick about in the Entertainment Space within the Chiswick Business Park*.
Cllr Ron Mushiso said, “We had a great turn out on the 24th of February, with friends and families alike attending. We have starting to build a strong sense of community already with this, and we are hoping that even more local residents can come out with their families, friends and neighbours to help us and enjoy socialising afterwards with refreshments and facilities organised by the West Chiswick and Gunnersbury Society.”
Marie Rabouhans, Chairman of WCGS said, “Litter-picking on the street, like dancing to the beat, is more fun when we do it together. The clean-up would really help us kick-start our Green up Gunnersbury campaign, ready for some planting in the Spring.”
