Hogarth Flyover To Be Closed For The Summer

Delays likely as TfL works will last until end of August

TfL has announced that the Hogarth Flyover in Chiswick will close from July 19th until August 31st to enable works to continue strengthening the structure.

The closure of the flyover, which carries traffic eastbound from the A316 onto the A4 Great West road, is likely to cause congestion as work also continues on the Hammersmith flyover at weekends. The closure of Putney Bridge from next Monday July 14th, to all vehicle traffic including buses for the next three months, is likely to add to the woes of motorists.

Work on the final phase of maintenance works at the Hammersmith Flyover which involves closures in one direction for 10 weekends from 30 May, caused major traffic disruption in the Chiswick and surrounding areas.

TfL said the closure of the Hogarth flyover was needed so engineers can replace the deck, repair parapets steelwork, and improve lighting on the slip road. "These essential repairs are required to ensure continued safety and reliability. A letter will be distributed to residents and businesses living near to Hogarth flyover to provide further information about the works".

TfL's contractor London Highways Alliance Contractor (LoHAC) started preparation work last May in advance of the deck replacement. The transport company says that the flyover, which was built in 1971, requires routine deck renewal and general refurbishment.

The first stage of works involved preparing the area underneath the flyover by levelling the ground, creating access points for vehicles to enter the central section of the roundabout and installing hoardings to protect the site.

Following completion of the works, both the roundabout and the north east island will be reinstated and replanted with trees and shrubs. TfL has also promised it will also improve pedestrian and cycle facilities.
