Hogarth’s House will temporarily close to visitors between Friday 29 June and Tuesday 21 August. The closure is necessary as part of the delivery of the £2.3million Heritage Lottery Funded Mulberry Garden project, enabling contractors to set up and carry out enabling works, including safe minor demolitions.

The closure will also enable repairs to be carried out to the ceiling and fireplace inside the house, so that the first floor can be re-opened.

Hogarth’s House will re-open in late August but the construction work will continue into 2019. The site will be made safe for visitors and the House will be fully open on both floors once more but the garden will be closed for the duration of the new work. The House will close again for a short period in early 2019 to allow for the final phase linking the Grade I listed House with the new building.

The Mulberry Garden project includes the construction of a much-needed new learning studio adjoining the Grade 1 listed House, the conservation and repair of the historic garden wall and the creation of an ‘exhibition garden’, whose design and planting present the story of the site. The aim is to provide an appropriate setting for the historic building, to expand the range of events, activities, learning and volunteering opportunities for a wider audience, and to help manage the greatly increased numbers of visitors on site, while improving their experience. The works will also ensure the future sustainability of the site with new facilities that are fit for purpose, flexible and used to their full potential for everything from learning to events and functions.

The project partnership (the Trust and the Hogarth’s House Trust/Hounslow Council working together) apologises for any inconvenience this necessary closure may cause to anyone planning on visiting Hogarth’s House.
