Chiswick Pier Trust recently welcomed Home-Start Hounslow, a charity which offers support and friendship to families, to a day of fun by the river.

A grand total of 60 visitors went along to Corney Reach where they enjoyed a beautiful, sociable, sun filled day out and learned lots about the river and those who work on it.

Thirty six children and young people kicked off the day creating colourful fish drawings while Captain Pugwash was up to his old antics on the new screen at Chiswick Pier House. Then the younger ones listened to tales about Eric the Eel from Lorraine from the Thames Explorer Trust and went on a guided walk down to the Pier and then along the river.

Older siblings and friends found out about the work of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution who gave a wonderful display.

Staff and volunteers of the Chiswick Pier Trust kindly served them with refreshments throughout the day and presented all the young guests with one of the Chiswick Pier Trust’s new Young Members badges. The day ended with a visit to Dukes Meadows.

If you are interested in helping local families in need, either as a home-visiting volunteer or as a member of the Management Committee, then they would love to hear from you. Please contact Home-Start Hounslow on 020 8577 9552 or Email homestart_hounslow@yahoo.co.uk.

Home-Start is one of the UK’s leading family support charities. Regional schemes, including Home-Start Hounslow, recruit and train volunteers to support parents in their own homes who have at least one child under the age of five.

The charity was set up in 1973 and now has 336 Home-Starts supporting nearly 34,000 families and over 71,000 children each year. Almost 16,000 volunteers visit families in their own homes – parents supporting other parents in a variety of situations including isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness or disability.
