Olympian rower James Cracknell may be taking on the Strictly Come Dancing challenge, according to reports in the national press.

If so, he will become the third resident from Chiswick to enter the BBC1 show. Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Jeremy Vine were both previous participants. The show is regarded as a great profile booster.

James, who is currently studying for a Master's degree at Cambridge, is physically fit for the challenge, having recently become, at age 45, the oldest participant in the winning team of the Boat Race.

The reports also said that he had been previously banned from taking part in the dance show while married to journalist Beverly Turner, for fear of the 'Strictly curse' which has seen several relationships crumble in the wake of the show.

However James and Beverly are now separated. They have three children together.

James was active in politics for some years and was deputy chairman (Political) of the Brentford & Isleworth Conservative Association.
