Jo Kent, owner of Jo Blu Salon in Grove Park, has won London Stylist of the Year at the London Hair & Beauty Awards.

Originally from Surrey, Jo started her career at Tony and Guy in London and went on to teach at their Hair Academy in Mayfair.

She started to work in film and television about thirteen years ago, and has worked on big budget movies such as The Mummy Returns, Hammer of The Gods and London Payback.

Ten years ago she set up her hairdressing salon in Grove Park in a premises that used to be an interior design shop. She started out with two stylists and a beautician and they have now expanded to sixteen staff.

Many of her clients are celebrities but confidentiality is a key priority at the salon. However, Jo did admit hair styling for Carole King at the Hyde Park concert was one of the highs of her career. The legendary songwriter was playing her first big venue concert in thirty years, along with her band, which included her daughter Louise Goffin and grandson Dylan playing the bass guitar.

Jo was recommended to the singer songwriter and was very chuffed when Carole King even took photographs of her style to use in future.

"She was a complete delight to work with. She sang her heart out on stage at the age of 74 and had everyone up dancing".

Jo was very modest about her award and commented; "The awards are for independent salons in London and it's nice to think that local salons are being recognised."

Last year Jo Blu won the Team/Service Of The Year Award.
