Louis Allgood (Junior Men) has been chosen as the recipient of this season’s Jack Petchey Achievement Award.

The coaches at Tideway Scullers voted for Louis, noting his consistent record of attendance at training sessions which is all the more impressive given the distance he has to travel from his school.

Louis is also flexible enough to sub into both sculling and sweep crews as required. As observed by Chris Williams, his coach, “Louis has exactly the qualities we are looking for at Tideway Scullers.”

Louis was presented with his framed certificate by World Champion Polly Swann at TSS on Sunday 17 th November.  Louis was also awarded a £200 grant which must be used to benefit the Junior section of the club.  The current thinking is that it should be spent on catering equipment for Regattas and Heads, however, Louis will have the final say on how this award money will be spent.

The Achievement Awards are designed to acknowledge a wide range of accomplishments. It’s not just about being clever, or gifted, it’s about putting the effort in and doing your best.

Previous awards have been given to Brenna Murphy for “perseverance in training, helpfulness and inspirational attitude and immediate positive response to helping out.”

Freddie Hurford was recognised for “successfully stepping up from the recreational sculling group to the Junior Men’s racing squad, attending every session despite having to cycle from Hanwell for every outing even the early morning mid-winter ones and he has never been heard to complain!”

Their grants were very well spent on the TSS marquee which is put to excellent use at all the regattas and heads throughout the year.
