Two new eateries have come to the High Road with the opening of Nikki's Bakery this week, and the imminent opening of American-style restaurant Jackson & Rye.

Nikki's Bakery has opened on the former Picture Man premises, next door to Snappy Snaps, and the owner says that everything will be freshly made and produce is baked on the site. The cafe offers sandwiches, smoothies, coffees, and a range of baked items such as croissants and fresh breads.

With a background in catering in his native Belgium, he said he and his wife moved to Chiswick three years ago and wanted a "new challenge". The bakery is named after his teenage daughter, who loves to bake. Nikki's Bakery will be open seven days a week from breakfast until evening.

Further up the High Road, staff at Jackson & Rye are busy putting everything in place for their public opening although an exact date has not been confirmed. The restaurant said it would be open in "mid June" and has already entertained invited guests for some trial runs. They hope to start taking online bookings from the middle of next week.

Jackson & Rye moved into premises formerly occupied by Jamie Oliver's Union Jacks and the menu will run from breakfast to all-day dining and weekend brunches, with menu staples including Burgers, shrimp 'n grits, crab cakes, macaroni cheese and steak and eggs. Classic American-style 'Rueben' sandwiches, lobster, and salads are also on the menu.

There will be a large selection of rye whiskey which the website describes as "the true taste of Old America".

Chiswick will be the second London outlet for Jackson & Rye - its first restaurant opened in Wardour Street.
