There was a large attendance of clergy and the local congregation, family and friends at the Ordination to the Diaconate of Derek Hyett at Our Lady of Grace and St Edwards church recently.

There were around 30 clergy – priests and deacons – at Derek’s ordination which was presided over by the Most Rev. Bishop John Sherrington, Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster.

Derek has been involved in the local parish, particularly with music, for a number of years.

Derek is originally from Liverpool and was formerly an Anglican cleric.

He has been living in the parish of Our Lady of Grace & St Edward on and off for the last 5 years whilst working at St Thomas More Language College in Chelsea as chaplain and as a base whilst studying at seminary.

He will serve as  a deacon at the parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and St Dominic in Homerton while preparing for ordination to the priesthood in the not too distant future.
