A telephone company is seeking permission to install a number of phone boxes on Chiswick High Road which would have internall illuminated digital panels on the side of the kiosk.

New World payphone company has applied to Hounslow Council for planning permission to site the kiosks.

The permission relates to 414 Chiswick High Road (in front of Empire House) and 116 Chiswick High Road (near Sainsbury Local at Chiswick Lane junction).

Some months ago an application for solar-powered phone boxes from Infocus Public Networks was refused on the grounds that they would be 'visually intrusive' and would add to street clutter in a conservation area.

Matthew Coe of New World Payphone said in a letter regarding his application that an estimated 3,000 digital panels would be on UK streets by the end of 2016. His company has made similar applications to several other councils recently, including Kingston upon Thames.

They have also applied to site similar kiosks in other areas of Hounslow borough including Brentford, Feltham and Isleworth.

The application states that the illumination would be similar to existing panels that use florescent lighting, and the changes to the advertisements would only flicker every ten seconds. The panels would also be able to carry emergency public services.
